The Power of Story

About TPOS
The Power of Story
If you want to change the world, start with a great story.
This idea inspires everything we do at The Power of Story. By connecting with audiences on a deep emotional level—by speaking to their humanity—we know we can gain the best chance of moving them into action. From Blood Diamond sparking demand for conflict-free gems to Food, Inc. igniting a new wave of eco-conscious eaters, we’ve seen SIE drive significant change globally.
The Significance of SIE
Our approach and first documentary series are born from more than a decade of work in SIE and international development. In 2018, Founder Peter Bisanz created landmark publication The State of SIE to capture the expertise of the leaders he’d met in this emergent field. Almost all of the book’s contributors alluded to the power of story to drive empathy, understanding and change within people’s hearts and minds. After all, we know that we have used narrative to communicate ideas throughout humanity—it’s fundamental to the way we share knowledge and make sense of the world. We are all storytellers.
Our Practice
The Power of Story is now putting all these learnings into practice with our first documentary and social impact campaign. Working with Harvard Professor Dr. Robert Livingston, The Conversation is a radically non-judgmental and scientific approach to ending systemic racism.
As SIE continues to evolve, its central opportunity remains the same: to tell stories that help make the world a better place. This mission lights us up every day, and we hope that you will join us.

Our Founder
Peter Bisanz is a social entrepreneur, filmmaker and pioneer in the emerging field of Social Impact Entertainment (SIE), which leverages the power of entertainment to catalyze change on some of the world’s toughest challenges. He has also spearheaded social impact campaigns while Head of Communications and Development for the World Economic Forum’s think-and-do tank (the Global Agenda Councils), which is charged with tackling the world’s most pressing environmental, social and geopolitical issues.
“Good intentions aren’t enough in the entertainment industry. Creators need to trigger people’s deepest emotions.”
